More than most, the cosmetology industry has been affected by COVID-19 restrictions and precautions. While this has been difficult for many, it’s not in our nature to get discouraged. We are up to the challenge of ensuring a healthy and safe environment for our customers and students.

Why Has COVID-19 Affected Cosmetology So Much?

Because of the nature of how cosmetologists need to work, it puts them us close proximity to our clients for extended periods of time. According to the CDC this increases the chances of COVID-19 transmission. Our job requires us to be within the recommended 6-feet of social distance which demands extra precautions. While sanitation and cleanliness is always a big part of what a professional hairdresser does, this is makes for unique challenges.

COVID-19 Precautions

Here are some of the precautions we continue to take as we adapt to this unprecedented time:

When required we wear full face guards and face masks to limit the possible transmission of COVID-19

Face Masks and Face Guards

In order to make sure our students and customers are safe, we wear face coverings when we need to interact. While we believe that part of the enjoyment of seeing your hair dresser comes with seeing a smiling friendly face looking back at you, we recognize that these are extraordinary times and will have to smile extra hard so you can see it with our eyes 🙂

Disinfecting and Deep Cleaning

When creating a new hairstyle, it requires touching multiple products and tools. We have now included disinfecting tools at each of our stations. It has always been our practice to wipe down and clean after every appointment, but now we take it a step further by fully disinfecting products, the chair, table and every other piece that we may have come in contact with.

Limiting In-Person Meetings

From meeting remotely, holding classes online, and generous sick-leave options we are limiting exposure to each other when possible. While it is impossible to completely eliminate close contact in our profession, we are mindful of when we are close to others and have implemented alternatives in order to limit that.

COVID-19 and the Future of Cosmetology

While we are cheerfully complying with the CDC recommendations to keep our hair school safe, we also look forward to a time when this pandemic can be safely behind us. Interacting with our customers is our favorite part of the job. Customers quickly turn into clients and ultimately friends. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together through this unprecedented time.
